About our Ranches

The Land

JK "Ranches" consists of our main ranch located in the beautiful Ninemile Valley, just west of Missoula, along with a handful of leased properties in and around the same area.

Our cattle graze year-round in open pastures on all our properties and grow our own hay in the spring and summer months.

Our land is our livelihood, so we work hard and strive to do our best to care for it properly.

A few of our practices include re-seeding our pastures with natural Montana range grasses using a no-till drill, so we disturb the underground soil biology as little as possible.

In addition, we check pastures daily to ensure they are not over-grazed.

Rotating cattle frequently before over-grazing helps prevent soil and water erosion, water pollution, increases wildlife habitat, ensures our operation's sustainability, and helps to preserve the land well into the future.

The Cattle

We raise Black Angus cattle with a few Red Angus mixed in here and there.

Ninety-nine percent of the herd is born on our ranch.

They graze in open pastures for the majority of their lives. While grazing, we supplement their grass with our home-grown hay, vitamins, and minerals.
In the last few months, they are moved into giant pens on the ranch and fed a mixture of our hay, vitamins, minerals, and grain.

The cattle you buy directly from us are part of our cow-calf operation and spend their entire lives on the ranch. No feedlots.

We closely monitor our herds daily to make sure we are alerted to any potential problems as soon as possible.

We use low-stress handling techniques to decrease stress on the animals and work with the herd's natural instinct as much as possible.

Decreasing stress is vital for the overall day-to-day operations of the ranch, but mainly, it improves the animal's overall health and allows them to lead a more humane life.

The Beef

Angus cattle consistently produce superior quality meat over other breeds; that’s why you’ll find that Angus is the preferred beef of most high-end restaurants in the U.S. Loved for their rich marbling and tenderness.

The grain we feed helps create the meat's mild "buttery" flavor that people prefer.

The meat is dry-aged for a minimum of 14 days.
Dry-ageing helps to develop a more complex and complete taste profile and adds even more tenderness to an already tender piece of meat.

We are committed to bringing you the most flavorful high-quality beef you can buy!
